MANHATTAN
1. COSA È MANHATTAN?
Manhattan è il mattoncino di pietra ricostruita di seconda generazione: affidabile,
prestante ed ecologico.
2. DOVE E COME SI POSA MANHATTAN?
Il supporto deve essere realizzato a regola d’arte, di conseguenza si deve presentare
planare, liscio, pulito (esente da parti asportabili, polvere, grassi, oli, cere, vernici,
agenti disarmanti e quanto altro possa pregiudicarne l’adesione), privo di fessura-
zioni, compatto, asciutto e resistente meccanicamente (la resistenza meccanica,
così come lo spessore, deve essere adeguata alla destinazione d’uso). La parete
deve inoltre essere stata completamente risanata in caso di precedenti macchie da
umidità da risalita e muffe. La posa deve essere eseguita su supporti che abbiano
già esplicato la maggior parte del ritiro igrometrico, evitando quindi la formazione
di eventuali fessure successivamente alla posa del Manhattan capaci di procurare
la rottura ed il distacco del medesimo. Per la posa del Manhattan si consigliano
collanti cementizi idonei per prodotti lapidei. In caso di posa all’interno un esempio è
il collante cementizio Litokol LITOFLEX PRO K80, o equivalenti sul mercato. In caso
di posa in esterno è preferibile un collante a maggiori prestazioni quale il Litokol
SUPERFLEX K77, o equivalenti sul mercato. Applicare l’adesivo mediante apposita
spatola dentata. Per la posa in superfici esterne stendere con la parte liscia della
spatola dentata uno strato di adesivo anche sul retro delle pietre (doppia spalmatu-
ra), per evitare il formarsi di pericolose cavità vuote tra la pietra e la malta adesiva.
Durante la posa è inoltre importante sia esercitare una pressione ed un movimento
dx/sx del murettino al fine di permettere la fuoriuscita di eventuali bolle d’aria (effetto
ventosa), sia controllare che non si formi una pellicola antiadesiva (pelle) sul collante;
in questo caso rispatolare l’adesivo allo scopo di rompere il
film superficiale. È altresì
importante una simulazione a terra dell’abbinamento in posa dei muretti prelevandoli
dalle differenti scatole in cantiere per miscelare al meglio le variazioni cromatiche
(variazioni molto più probabili ed inevitabili tra angoli e fondo). Posare a temperature
comprese tra 5° e 30°. Soltanto in caso di posa in esterno, NON
è consentita la posa
su superfici orizzontali.
3. COME SI FUGA MANHATTAN?
Manhattan viene venduto a mq nominale, includendo nella misurazione anche la fuga
che si quantifica mediamente di circa 1cm. Le fughe dovranno essere pulite e prive di
polvere. Come fugante suggeriamo il cementizio Litokol STYLEGROUT 3-20 a grana
grossa o equivalenti sul mercato. Per ottenere una fuga ancora più “grezza” e rustica
suggeriamo il cementizio Mapei Ultracolor Plus, o equivalenti sul mercato, aumentando
eventualmente l’effetto rustico “picchiettando” con un pennello il fugante semi-indurito.
4. COME SI PULISCE MANHATTAN?
Rimuovere lo sporco derivante dalla posa/fuga (colla o stucco) mediante scopa o
spazzola a setole dure dopo poche ore dalla posa (non usare acqua o spugna ba-
gnata). Per la manutenzione ordinaria lavare la parete semplicemente con acqua e/o
detergenti neutri almeno una volta all’anno e non utilizzare spazzole metalliche, acidi
o pulivapor (è invece possibile usare spazzole a setole dure o aspirapolvere con boc-
chetta in setola). Evitare sempre e comunque l’uso di prodotti contenenti acidi, anche
se diluiti.
5. DEVO TRATTARE MANHATTAN?
No. Soltanto in caso di posa in certe condizioni (doccia, sauna, spa) è indispensa-
bile l’applicazione di due mani di idrorepellente FILA Hydrorep. Applicazione peral-
tro consigliata anche per posa in bar, ristoranti, cucine, stazioni balneari, ecc.. Il
trattamento non modifica l’aspetto del mattone.
6. MANHATTAN RESISTE AI RAGGI UV? Si.
7. MANHATTAN RESISTE AL GELO? Si.
8. MANHATTAN RESISTE AL FUOCO? Si.
9. MANHATTAN ASSORBE?
Si, Manhattan si comporta come la pietra naturale; quindi assorbe e, se non trat-
tato, può macchiarsi.
10. POSSO PITTURARE MANHATTAN?
Si. È possibile pitturare Manhattan con normali pitture da muro per ottenere i più
svariati ed arditi effetti cromatici.
MANHATTAN
1. WHAT IS MANHATTAN?
Manhattan is the Brick Stone rebuilt second generation: reliable, handsome and
ecological.
2. WHERE AND HOW TO LAY DOWN MANHATTAN?
The support must be made in the best possible way, therefore it must be flat,
smooth, clean (free of loose particles, dust, grease, oils, waxes, paints, and
anything else that could compromise adhesion), free from cracks, compact, dry
and mechanically resistant (mechanical strength, as well as the thickness, must
be appropriate to the intended use). The wall must also have been completely
recovered in the case of previous stains from moisture and molds. The installation
has to be done on walls which have already lost most of their moisture content,
thus avoiding the formation of any cracks after the laying of the Manhattan. For
the laying of Manhattan are recommended cementitious adhesives suitable for
stone products. In case of indoor-laying the adhesive Litokol LITOFLEX PRO K80
(or equivalent on the market) is suitable. In case of outside-laying is better to
use a more performance adhesive like Litokol SUPERFLEX K77, or equivalent
on the market. Apply the glue with a notched trowel. For outdoor-laying spread
with the smooth side of a notched trowel a layer of adhesive on the back of the
stones (double coating), to avoid the formation of holes between the stone and
the glue. During the laying is also important to both exert a pressure with a right/
left movement of the stone in order to allow the escape of any air bubbles (suction
effect), and check that there are no anti-adhesive films (skin) on the adhesive; in
this case re-spread the adhesive in order to break the superficial film. It’s also
important to make a laying simulation on the ground with many bricks taken from
the different boxes in order to make the better possible mix of the color variations
(variations much more likely and inevitable between the corners and the straight
bricks). Lay at temperatures between 5 °C and 30 °C. When laying outside, it is
NOT allowed laying on horizontal surfaces.
3. HOW DO I GROUT MANHATTAN?
Manhattan is sold at nominal sqm, including in it the joints supposed to be around
1cm. The joints must be clean and free of dust. As grout we suggest Litokol
STYLEGROUT 3-20 coarse-grained, or equivalent on the market. To get a grout
even more rough and rustic we suggest using the Mapei Ultracolor Plus, or
equivalent on the market, possibly increasing the rustic effect “tapping” with a
brush the semi-hardened grout.
4. HOW DO I CLEAN MANHATTAN?
Remove glue or grout in excess by broom or stiff bristle brush after a few hours
after application (do not use water or wet sponge). For routine maintenance wash
the wall with just water and/or neutral detergent at least once a year and do
not use iron brushes, acids or high-pressure waterjet (it is possible to use hard
brushes or vacuum cleaner nozzle with bristle). Always avoid the use of products
containing acids, even diluted.
5. MUST I TREAT MANHATTAN?
No. Only in case of laying in certain conditions (shower, sauna, spa) it is required
to apply two times the waterproof FILA Hydrorep. Application moreover also
recommended for installation in bars, restaurants, kitchens, sea resorts, etc ..
The treatment does not change the look of the brick.
6. DOES MANHATTAN RESIST TO UV RAYS? Yes.
7. IS MANHATTAN FROST-PROOF? Yes.
8. IS MANHATTAN FIRE RETARDANT? Yes.
9. DOES MANHATTAN ABSORB?
Yes, Manhattan is like natural stone; then it absorbs and, if untreated, may stain.
10. CAN I PAINT MANHATTAN?
Yes. Manhattan can be painted with a normal wall paint to get the most varied and
daring color effects.
